In the connected, media rich school environment, librarians play a vital role. As true media specialists, they become experts in electronic resources, and catalysts to facilitate and promote the effective utilization of those resources in the classroom and at home, and across the curricula.
Librarians of the 21st Century support the campus administrator(s) and teachers in promoting and modeling the selection, organization, and use of quality resources to enhance the curriculum and supplement traditional teaching resources. In addition, librarians help students with the evaluation, synthesis, and analysis of information, as well as the discovery of new knowledge. This is what information literacy is all about.
In order to support this effort, Instructional Tehnology offers a variety of online resources and professional development opportunities for librarians through Digital Knowledge Central, the K-12 Databases statewide initiative and the Educational Resources Cooperative.
