No, a course can not be counted twice for two different types of credit.
Which Career and Technology courses will substitute for physicaleducation on high school graduation plans?
Any two- or three-credit pre-employment laboratory or work-based learning course can substitute for the PE requirements.
How many courses can teachers teach outside their area of certification?
One
Can a school district offer a Career and Technology course in lower grade levels?
Yes, districts may offer courses recommended for Grades 9-12 in lower grade levels.
Can students enroll at midterm in a year-long course?
Midterm enrollment should be discouraged, since students will have missed an entire semester of instruction. Career and Technology Education courses (3 credits) with a work-based component require the student to be enrolled for the entire school year. (See Student Attendance Accounting Handbook, Section V)
If a student enrolls in a yearlong course in the fall, and then, for whatever reason, exits at mid-term, can the student receive credit for the fall semester?
Districts should have a policy for granting credit when a student completes less than the total course requirements.. Typically, if a student successfully completes the first semester, and the district posts grades semester-by-semester, the student should not be denied the credit when they exit at mid-term.
Are teachers required to teach all of the TEKS identified for any one Career and Technology Education course?
While all of the TEKS developed for CATE courses are to serve as guidelines, and not mandates, for instruction, schools are expected to teach substantially all of the TEKS for these enrichment courses.
How do we report students in PEIMS who are in a work-based learning arrangement? Do we use the Career Preparation numbers?
According to the PEIMS Data Standards, students enrolled in a CATE course with a work-based learning component should be reported using the eight-digit, work-based learning (WBL) number appropriate to their training placement indicating that, in addition to their
classroom instruction, they are also receiving on-the-job training (co-op, internship, apprenticeship, etc.).
Which courses in CATE count under Option II for the Recommended and Distinguished graduation plans?
Any state-approved career and technology courses, in any combination (3 1/2 credits for the Recommended plan and 2 1/2 credits for the Distinguished Achievement plan). The courses can be a mix of CATE program areas (agriculture, business, or technology, for example), depending on the student's individual career plan.
What is a coherent sequence?
A "coherent sequence of courses" means an educational plan made up of developmentally-appropriate courses suited for a given career objective or goal. This plan builds upon the academic core components and includes school-based learning and work-based learning experiences leading to both academic and occupational competencies.
Note:Under the Recommended High School Program, a student must demonstrate proficiency equivalent to 3 1/2 credits in a coherent sequence of two or more courses for career and technology preparation, and must meet recommended high school program criteria in English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, languages other than English, health, fine arts, and technology applications.

No. School districts must provide sufficient time for a teacher to teach, and for students to learn, the essential knowledge and skills of a curriculum, of which Career and Technology courses are a part.
Why is there a need for statewide articulation?
Statewide articulation will provide standardized requirements for the award of articulated credit. Statewide articulation will simplify the process for students who take specific articulated Career and Technology courses in high school, and continue in a related degree program at a community or technical college in Texas.
Can a student earn a measure for the Distinguished Achievement Program by taking an articulated course such as diesel mechanics?
Tech prep courses may count if they are part of an approved Tech Prep coherent sequence of courses; count toward a degree at a two- or four-year postsecondary institution; and are equivalent to a three-hour course.
