Presenter: John Bond, ESC-20 This two-day workshop explores the multi-sensory Visual Phonics program and its benefits in reinforcing oral language, speech, literacy and writing skills for students who are bilingual or possess diverse learning needs. This hands-on workshop develops the skills necessary to implement Visual Phonics in therapeutic and instructional settings. The second day explores research-based strategies to support beginning spelling and reading instruction with the support of Visual Phonics.
Sheltered Instruction to Support Students Who Are DHH: SIOP Model Overview
Presenter: John Bond, ESC-20 This three-day highly interactive session explores the eight components of sheltered instruction and how they may be used to help students develop academic language and grade-level content skills. Participants will explore strategies for making content information comprehensible to English learners and explore the relevance of using sheltered instructional strategies with students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Participants will receive a copy of Making Content Comprehensible for English Learners: The SIOP Model.

Language and Literacy: What Does the Research Say?
Presenter: Beverly Trezek, DePaul University This session explores recent literature about instruction of the areas of literacy and language instruction for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Participants are provided opportunities to reflect on current teaching practices and be challenged to look at instructional strategies in a different way.
