International Reading Association (IRA)
IRA is a professional membership organization that promotes high levels of literacy instruction through professional development, advocacy, research, partnerships and global literacy development.

National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)
NCTE is a professional membership organization devoted to improving the teaching and learning of English and the Language Arts at all levels of education in the US.

National Reading Panel (NRP)
In 1997, Congress asked the Director of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) at the National Institutes of Health, in consultation with the Secretary of Education, to convene a national panel to assess the effectiveness of different approaches used to teach children to read.

Southwest Education Development Laboratory (SEDL)
The Regional Educational Laboratory reading resources assist teachers in understanding the cognitive requirements of beginning and struggling readers.

Texas Education Agency (TEA)
TEA and the State Board of Education guide and monitor activities and programs related to public education in Texas.

Texas State Reading Association (TSRA)
TSRA is a sub-organization of IRA. This professional membership organization focuses on literacy issues specific to Texas.

University of Texas Center for Academic Reading Skills (CARS)
The Center for Academic and Reading Skills (CARS) conducts research on how reading and other academic skills develop in normal children, children who are underachievers, and children who are academically disabled.

Vaughn Gross Center for Reading and Language Arts (VGCLRA)
VGCRLA supports the Texas Student Success Initiative while at the same time broadening its focus beyond Texas to contribute to the efforts of national researchers and educators who are working to enable all children to read on grade level by third grade and throughout their school careers. To fulfill these goals, the Center relies on five major components: Professional Development, Special Education Reading Project (SERP), Higher Education Collaborative (Texas and National), Research, and the Texas Family Literacy Center.
