Making Research Relevant in the Classroom

In today’s high stakes accountability environment, schools trying to implement research-based strategies and curriculum face many hurdles. Among these are the amount of current research, locating research specific to your needs, and having the time and resources to use the research effectively.

Educators aren’t the only ones wrestling with research issues. The U.S. Department of Education and organizations like Education Service Center, Region 20 and SEDL are working to bridge the gap between research and practice.

Use the Reading Strategies drop-down list at left to explore reading strategies that can assist you with struggling readers in your classroom. Each strategy provides information such as:

  • An overview of the strategy
  • Professional development needed
  • Reading proficiency and instruction
  • And the research available on each strategy

This information is intended to provide the classroom teacher with more “tools” for his or her tool box to assist struggling readers in their classroom. Note that this is not a complete list of all strategies available but those that have current research. We plan to continue to add to the list of strategies as the research is available, so check back.
