Behavior problems occur not only in the common areas but in the classroom as well. Effective classroom management is vital to providing powerful instruction to boost student achievement. By equipping teachers with more knowledge and skills in the area of classroom management and dynamic instruction, teachers can focus on academic achievement and excellence rather than correcting misbehavior.

The Annual Behavior Institute
This annual event is the highlight of professional development opportunities offered here at Region 20. Each year a keynote speaker addresses the theme for the year with breakout sessions that deepen understanding of the theme. Keynote speakers of previous institutes have included Randy sprick, Marcus Conyers, Terry Scott, Martin Brokenleg, Jane Bluestein, and Rich Allen. Other sessions are offered in various multi-disciplinary areas that complement student discipline and behavior, such as autism, gifted and talented, pre-school, career and technology education, and LRE (least restrictive environment).

CHAMPs: A Positive, Proactive Approach to Classroom Management
CHAMPs, designed by Randy Sprick, is a research-based program on classroom organization and management. Participants learn how to structure classrooms to prompt responsible student behavior, directly teach and encourage students to behave responsibly, and pre-plan responses to student misbehavior.

Quantum Learning
Quantum Learning provides a proven research-based approach to the design and delivery of curriculum and the teaching of learning and life skills. This program takes best teaching practices and synthesizes them into a model of effective education. Participants will learn practical brain-based techniques that can be immediately applied in the classroom. Some topics that are covered include: tapping a student’s natural curiosity; supercharging the classroom environment; using music and celebration in the classroom; creating captivation lessons; improving presentation skills; and reducing discipline problems. Previous evaluations from this highly interactive workshop consistently support the dynamic positive effects this model has had on student discipline, motivation, and achievement.
