Alternative Education Programs (DAEPs and JJAEPs)

Resources on alternative settings for behavior management such as Disciplinary Alternative Education Programs (DAEP) and Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Programs (JJAEP).

Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code defines two types of alternative education programs:

  • Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP) is an alternative education program for students who violate a district's Student Code of Conduct or certain other offenses such as a felony offense
  • Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP) is a placement for some students who have been expelled from school for certain offenses such as bringing a firearm to school. Refer to the following resources for more detailed information
