Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS)
PEIMS is a statewide reporting system that enables school districts to provide information on district organization, finances, staff, and students to the Texas Education Agency (TEA). TEA determines the specific data the districts must provide and the format that must be used when reporting the data. Data is collected by TEA four times each year, and different requirements apply to each submission.
The RSCCC PEIMS application provides programs to extract the appropriate data for each PEIMS submission from the RSCCC Business and Student systems. These programs are reviewed and modified annually, per the published PEIMS Data Standards, to ensure that the data extracted to the district database is as accurate as possible. The extracts provide some of the edits as defined in the PEIMS Data Standards, and in some cases convert local codes to the state-mandated code values.
If your district’s financial data is maintained in greater detail than the level required for the PEIMS submission, then the detail is automatically summarized when it is extracted to the district database.
If your district uses local account codes that do not match the codes required for PEIMS, RSCCC PEIMS provides a method to automatically crosswalk the local codes to the required codes when the data is extracted.
The student extract programs will create the appropriate records in the district database, taking into account the school-start window and the as-of date. The as-of status code is automatically generated on each student record.
Staff data can be extracted from the Business system, the student master schedule, or both. If staff responsibility records are not maintained in the student master schedule with location start and stop times, RSCCC PEIMS provides a method to crosswalk the data to the format required by TEA.
Since extracted records may contain information that is incomplete or inaccurate, RSCCC PEIMS provides the data maintenance functions needed to correct the data saved in the district database. The maintenance functions also provide many of the edits defined in the PEIMS Data Standards to help ensure that the data being entered will be accepted by the TEA editor. You can easily search for student and staff records by name and financial records by account code.
RSCCC PEIMS provides reports for each record type. In addition, a utility is provided that allows you to merge a TEA format file to the district database. This is helpful for districts that may have data from a non-RSCCC application.
The advantage of RSCCC PEIMS is that it interfaces with the other RSCCC systems. Having the information from the Business and Student systems available to the PEIMS application means that you have to do less work to create and maintain PEIMS data.
