A positive, consistent school-wide climate can eliminate many of the discipline problems which occur in schools. Some critical elements of a positive and safe school climate are developing school-wide rules and expectations, actively teaching all students these rules and expectations, ensuring adequate teacher supervision, recognizing when students follow the rules, and correcting and re-teaching the rules.
This process is a multi-year commitment. The steps to begin this process include the following:
Overview of the process to administrators and faculty in order to obtain 80% consensus;
Collect discipline data including climate surveys, office referrals, and school-wide observations;
Create a team to analyze this data, develop an action plan, present to the faculty, and lead the process.
Regional specialists will present the overview, assist with data collection, and guide the team.
