For individuals with undergraduate or graduate degrees from regionally accredited United States institutions of higher education.
1. Online Application - Submit a completed on-line application at: https://portal.esc20.net/pls/apex/f?p=169:101:2012585999269869300, Submit a criminal history release form, supporting documentation and applicable application fee on or before application deadline. All supporting documentation submitted by mail must be postmarked by application deadline.
2. Interview - After admission requirements are met, teacher candidates will meet with program staff to determine the educator preparation candidate’s appropriateness for the certification sought and any other criteria for admission. Interviews are conducted prior to training beginning.
3. Conferred Degree - Applicant must possess a conferred undergraduate or graduate degree from a regionally accredited college/university recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).
4. Official Transcripts - Applicant must submit official transcripts in sealed envelopes from each college and/or university attended and have an overall grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 or at least 2.5 in the last 60 semester credit hours of course work.
5. English Oral Proficiency - An individual who has graduated with a baccalaureate or graduate degree from an accredited United States institution of higher education meets the English language oral proficiency requirement.
6. Basic Skills Test – Beginning with the academic year 2012 the program will use an alternative method which states that a candidate may demonstrate basic skills by meeting the requirements of the Texas Success Initiative (Texas Education Code, §51.3062) under the rules established by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in Part 1, Chapter 4, Subchapter C of this title (relating to Texas Success Initiative). This allows any person who has earned an undergraduate or advanced degree from an accredited University within the United States to meet the basic skills requirement.
