2008 Regional Superintendent of the Year

2008 ESC-20 Regional Superintendent of the Year Named

Dr. Dan Troxell

Dr. Dan Troxell of Kerrville ISD was named Superintendent of the Year (SOTY) by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) on September 28, 2008.  Since 1984, the SOTY program has recognized exemplary superintendents for excellence and achievement in educational leadership. Candidates are chosen for their strong leadership skills, dedication to improving the quality of education in their school districts, commitment to public support and involvement in education, and ability to build good employee relations among teachers and staff members.

Dr. Troxell begins his sixth year as the Superintendent for Kerrville ISD. Under his leadership the district has received numerous awards and recognition for academic progress and sound fiscal management including a Recognized rating from the Texas Education Agency.

Dr. Troxell earned a Bachelor of Arts with honors degree, and subsequently a Ph.D, from the University of Texas at Austin. He also holds a Masters of Education degree from Texas State University in San Marcos. He has been a middle school teacher, middle and high school assistant principal and high school principal. Dr. Troxell and his wife, Shelley, have two sons.

A Regional Screening Committee selected Dr. Troxell as the 2008 ESC-20 Regional Superintendent of the Year. The nomination was forwarded to the TASB State Selection Committee for the statewide competition.

2008 Honor Board of the Year

2008 Honor Board of the Year

Education Service Center, Region 20 received nominations from three districts for the annual 2008 Honor Board Award Program sponsored by the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA). Regional nominations were received from Floresville ISD, Kerrville ISD and Northside ISD. A Regional Screening Committee selected the Northside ISD Board as the 2008 ESC-20 Regional Honor Board of the Year.

Members of the Northside Board of Trustees are:

  • Katie N. Reed, President
  • M’Lissa M. Chumbley, Vice President
  • Karen Freeman, Secretary
  • George Lynn Britton, Jr., Trustee
  • Annie L. Holmes, Trustee
  • Robert Blount, Jr., Trustee
  • Randall H. Fields, Trustee

TASA created the School Board Awards Program in 1971 to recognize school boards whose dedication and ethical service have made a positive impact on the children of Texas. This is an excellent opportunity to reward the hard-working, dedicated board members with the recognition they deserve.

The criteria emphasize evidence of support for educational performance improvement. The Northside nomination has been forwarded to the TASA State Selection Committee for the statewide Texas’ Outstanding School Board competition.

All regional and honor boards are recognized at the TASA/TASB Convention in September—the biggest gathering of educational leaders in the state!
