Education Service Center, Region 20 (ESC-20) provides a variety of Internet services beyond internet access. These include content filtering, content monitoring, domain name registration, e-mail accounts, e-mail scanning, remote backup, secondary DNS, Sharepoint hosting and web site traffic analyis services.
ESC-20 provides remote backup services which backup your e-mail and/or file system through the use of an appliance. Backups are encrypted and stored in a secured offsite location. Retrieval is easy (via the web) in the event of a disaster.
Services include an appliance, e-mail archiving and/or file system storage.
Appliance Access to a local (onsite) and report appliance located at Barracuda (formerly Bitleap) to place backup data and/or e-mail archive via encrypted communication lines. The appliance is required for remote backup services of e-mail archiving and/or file system. Only one (1) appliance is required even if both services are selected.
E-mail Archiving
The e-mail archiving option provides e-mail archive/retieval space down to the individual mailbox for Exchange and Groupwise.
File System
File system provides for local and offsite backup of data. Files are stored per gigabyte (GB). The ability to restore this data will be exercised annually.
Content Filtering
Content filtering services are provided through a dedicated filtering appliance which offers speed and scalability. There are 90+ filtering categories in a database that can be customized to meet district needs. Remote administration capabilities allow access via a web browser. Reporting is available through real-time probes with the selection of an appliance that includes the reporting features. This service helps your district comply with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) by controlling access to offensive content.
Parents and educators concerned about the possibility of inappropriate Web sites being viewed in schools may request server-based filtering of inbound Internet content. Operating on an appliance solution deployed by 8e6 Technologies at the ESC-20 network center, this service monitors all Internet requests made from subscribing sites. The 8e6 Internet filter provides a standalone server appliance dedicated to filtering Internet access that ensures stability, scalability and performance without compromising other server/network functions. The Client will be provided with an account to create unique and customized Internet content profiles based on the library of content categories.
Domain Name Registration
ESC-20 will register a domain name for the Client with the Texas Regional Hostmaster. Naming conventions specified under InterNIC RFCs will be determined in collaboration with the Client, and ESC-20 will register the selected name with the proper authorities. If the Client chooses to use a commercial name (.net, .org, .us, etc.) ESC-20 will register it with a company licensed through record domain ownership on behalf of the Client. The Client will be billed the yearly domain registration fee for each domain name.
E-mail Accounts
The ESC-20 e-mail account service is fast and secure. E-mail account access is POP3 configured and also accessible via Web browser. ESC-20 e-mail service provides basic spam and virus protection. The Client can use a unique e-mail address at their domain. It allows you to send and receive e-mails using popular e-mail clients like Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express.
E-mail Archiving
E-mail archive/retrieval down to individual mailboxes for Exchange and GroupWise.
E-mail Scanning Services
The ESC-20 e-mail scanning service provides threat prevention and blocking SPAM and viruses before they reach your network by routing all your e-mail to an appliance located at ESC-20. ESC-20 stays abreast of new technology development and includes Virus Outbreak technologies into the e-mail scanning services. The Virus Outbreak technologies identify and stop viruses hours before traditional signatures are available.
Moodle/Podcast/Sharepoint Hosting
Host your Sharepoint collaboration service in a secure environment. Ranges of disk space from 250 MB - 20 GB and users from 200 - 1,500 (based on ADA), setup and e-mail support. Fee is monthly.
Secondary Domain Name Service
For each Internet domain name, InterNIC policy requires domain name service (DNS) to be maintained on a minimum of two servers, each with a unique registered IP address. One server acts as 'primary', while the other acts as 'secondary', or 'backup', to the primary. The InterNIC also recommends these servers be connected to separate LANs at separate locations, but this is not a requirement. To satisfy DNS needs, ESC-20 will maintain secondary DNS.
Website Hosting
The Client may secure up to 10 GB of disk space and publisher access for hosting a Web site on the netVision20 Web servers.
Website Traffic Analysis
ESC-20 will analyze visitors to your website providing information regarding the visitors behavior, product interests, content quality, site performance and business activity as captured in your website visitors’ clickstreams.
