These are some examples of programs that are used in several Region 20 districts.

Project ALERT – is an effective, research-based drug prevention program for middle grade students (grades 6, 7 and 8) taught in 14 class sessions over a two-year period. It focuses on the substances that adolescents are most likely to use first and most widely: alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and inhalants. http://www.projectalert.com

Life Skills – this program is a proven, highly effective, substance abuse prevention/competency enhancement program designed to focus primarily on the major social and psychological factors promoting substance use/abuse. http://www.lifeskillstraining.com

Peers Making Peace – provides training to reduce violence and improve the learning environment for educators and youth by implementing campus-based conflict mediation programs at all grade levels. http://www.paxunited.org

Protecting You/Protecting Me – this program is an alcohol use prevention curriculum for children in grades 1-5. The curriculum focuses on the effects of alcohol on the developing brain during the first 21 years of life. http://www.pypm.org
