Q: What procedure should I follow for writing a student’s name on a Xerox copy of a writing composition? Answer: You can write the child’s name on a sticky note and place it on the Xerox copy of the composition, or preprint labels to place on the Xerox copy of the composition.
Q: An eligible student was exempt from the exit level TAKS assessment in math due to meeting the passing standard established by the commissioner on the SAT. Because this student is still required to take the exit level science and social studies TAKS tests, how do we code the answer document for math due to this exemption? Answer: The answer document should be coded as “O” for other; however, documentation must be stored locally (SAT results). You must also have a letter indicating what you used as their graduation requirement in lieu of TAKS. http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/student.assessment/faq/alt_exit_assess.pdf
Q: We have as student who took TAKS M for grade 11 math and passed. He took an exit level retest in another subject. How do I code his answer document for the TAKS M math assessment that the student previously passed? Answer: All TAKS M tests that have been passed are marked an “X” on the score code. Documentation must be stored locally, as the confidential student report will indicate that the student did not take the exit level math assessment. The documentation is the student’s IEP.
Q: TEA approved an ARF that was submitted for the March administration. Do I have to resubmit another ARF for a student who is going to be a re-tester? Answer: If an ARF was submitted for a subject area and it was approved, the ARF is approved for all retests in that subject area. It is not necessary to submit an accommodation request for a retest unless an accommodation is added per IEP change and ARD decision. Accommodation request forms must be submitted each year the student needs the accommodation. This is important since educators should be evaluating the effectiveness of each accommodation periodically and requesting them based on student need from year to year.
Q: Are Dyslexia Bundled accommodations available for a LAT administration? Answer: No. Dyslexia Bundled Accommodations is not an available accommodation for LAT, because LAT accommodations provide similar assistance.
Q: How long does an accommodation have to be used in order to be considered routinely used? Answer: TEA does not specify an amount of time that constitutes routine use. It is the responsibility of the school to determine if a student is familiar with and comfortable using the accommodation in order to be successful on the day of the test.
